Adelmidrol is a semi-synthetic derivative of azelaic acid with a symmetrical diethanolamide structure. It belongs to the ALIAmide class, which includes compounds known for their cannabimimetic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects, believed to work by down-regulating mast cell activity. Similar in structure to palmitoylethanolamide, adelmidrol has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties in both veterinary and clinical studies.
In veterinary applications, particularly in Italy, adelmidrol is widely used for treating skin inflammation. Studies show that, when applied topically, adelmidrol can effectively control mast cell activity, a key factor in inflammation. In dogs, for instance, a 2% adelmidrol topical treatment has been shown to reduce mast cell degranulation in skin wounds and to mitigate gingival inflammation in chronic conditions. This is achieved through an increase in intracellular granular content, indicating reduced mast cell activation and inflammatory response.
In human studies, a 2% adelmidrol emulsion used on children with mild atopic dermatitis resulted in complete resolution in 80% of cases within four weeks, with no relapses observed at an 8-week follow-up. Adelmidrol’s unique dual hydrophilic and lipophilic properties make it ideal for topical formulations, as it can penetrate the skin’s layered structure effectively.
Adelmidrol is also included in Vessilen, a therapeutic mixture used intravesically to treat interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). In studies, weekly instillations of Vessilen in patients with IC/BPS led to reduced inflammation, improved quality of life, and decreased pain intensity by down-regulating the NF-κB pathway and inflammatory mediators.
These findings suggest that adelmidrol, particularly in topical forms, holds promise as an effective anti-inflammatory agent for conditions involving mast cell-driven inflammation in both veterinary and human applications.
Storage: The product has a shelf life of 2 years, stored in room temperature. Avoid heat and sunlight.
