Promotes wound healing

Bird's nest extract rich in epidermal growth factor (EGF) was shown to accelerate wound healing in an in vitro scratch test on human keratinocytes.

In a scratch test on normal human keratinocytes, treatment with bird's nest extract showed accelerated wound healing in a dose-dependent manner compared to control after 24 hours.

Bird's nest extract upregulated the genetic expression of claudin-1 by about 2-fold and claudin-4 by about 3-fold.

It also increased the protein expression of claudin-1 by over 2 times and claudin-4 by over 4 times compared to control.

Fluorescence microscopy visually confirmed the increased claudin-4 protein expression (indicated by red regions).

Improves skin elasticity

In a human monitor test, topical application of a gel containing 0.5% bird's nest extract for 1 month improved skin elasticity by 19% in female subjects and 7% in male subjects.
